Biography<\/h2>\n

Dr. Brian Sharpless is a licensed clinical psychologist and researcher.\u00a0 He is currently a Visiting Associate Professor of Psychology at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Visiting Research Fellow at Goldsmiths, University of London.\u00a0 Dr. Sharpless was formerly on faculty at Pennsylvania State University, Washington State University, and the American School of Professional Psychology. He received his PhD in Clinical Psychology and MA in Philosophy from Pennsylvania State University and completed post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania.\u00a0 Current research interests include understudied psychological conditions (e.g., isolated sleep paralysis, exploding head syndrome, taijin kyofusho), psychodynamic therapy, and anomalistic psychology.\u00a0 His three books (Sleep Paralysis:\u00a0 Historical, Psychological, and Medical Perspectives; Unusual and Rare Psychological Disorders: A Handbook for Clinical Practice and Research, and Psychodynamic Therapy Techniques: A Guide to Supportive and Expressive Interventions) are available through Oxford University Press.<\/p>\n
